We are pleased to announce this year’s scholarship winners for both the HIE Help Center Special Education Scholarship and the Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy Scholarship!
Emeizni Mandagi, Winner of the HIE Help Center Special Education Scholarship
Emeizni Mandagi is a current graduate student at USC attaining her Master of Arts in Teaching with a Multiple Subject and Education Specialist credential. As an individual who grew up low-income and immigrated to the US at 3 years old, Mandagi is a huge advocate for educational equity and special education. She is a firm believer that public education in America should properly serve all students, regardless of their learning and sociocultural background. “Our differences should never be considered a deficit to our learning and should only enhance our learning community and experience,” she says.
Mandagi’s goal is to become a special education teacher in California, where there is currently a shortage in the field. She wants to step into that role herself and give her students access to a rigorous curriculum in the least restrictive environment and tailored to their unique needs. In the future, she plans to pursue a Doctorate in Education and continue amplifying and supporting the voices of the families and students in her community and beyond.
Jaqueline Angulo, Winner of the HIE Help Center Scholarship for Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy Students
Jaqueline Angulo is an aspiring Occupational Therapist currently pursuing her MS degree.
After completing her graduate program, Jaqueline hopes to one day open up her own bilingual private practice. She aims to specifically help minority families who may face additional struggles within the healthcare system due to language barriers and insufficient resources.
Jaqueline also hopes to combine her love for the arts and integrate her passion for dance within the field of occupational therapy. View Jaqueline’s phenomenal dance submission here:

About the HIE Help Center
The HIE Help Center is run by ABC Law Centers, a medical malpractice firm exclusively handling cases involving HIE and other birth injuries. Our lawyers have over 100 years of combined experience with this type of law, and have been advocating for children with HIE and related disabilities since the firm’s inception in 1997.
We are passionate about helping families obtain the compensation necessary to cover their extensive medical bills, loss of wages (if one or both parents have to miss work in order to care for their child), assistive technology, and other necessities.
